Legion Post 86 needs Thanksgiving volunteers

Birch Bay’s American Legion Peace Arch Post 86 is hosting its 16th annual Thanksgiving dinner at the Blaine Senior Center from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Thursday, November 24.

Each year an estimated 600 people from the community participate in the dinner, said David Van Duisen with the American Legion Post 86.

Often, he and his wife cook up more than 30 turkeys, among other things, the night prior to the event. In previous years, more than 50 volunteers have been needed to help with the dinner.

“It’s quite the ordeal,” he said.

All are welcome to take part in the community tradition. Volunteers and donations are welcomed.
