Blaine's OysterFest returns, bringing fresh seafood and community fun

Posted

Get ready to celebrate community by the sea and eat local seafood at Blaine’s fifth annual OysterFest on Saturday, Oct. 10, at the H Street Plaza.

The event, hosted by Blaine-Birch Bay Park and Recreation District 2, will run from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m., bringing family-friendly fun for all ages to the heart of downtown Blaine.

Of course, it wouldn’t be OysterFest without oysters. Drayton Harbor Oyster Company will grill fresh oysters, with toppings including Savory, Sweet-N-Smoky, Bacon Blu and the Chef’s Surprise. There will also be an all-ages beer garden and a vendors’ market, featuring various food, craft and other vendors.

Local bands will play live music throughout the day. From 11 a.m. to 1 p.m., Hot Damn Scandal will perform, followed by Step Stool (formerly Negative Sense) from 2 to 3 p.m., ending with the JP Falcon Band from 4 p.m. on.

Eventgoers can either try their hand or cheer others on at the handful of contests on the schedule. From 1 to 2 p.m., there will be corn and oyster shucking contests as well as a dog/owner lookalike contest. From 3 to 4 p.m., there will be a seagull calling contest and a pie eating contest with both adult and youth categories. Participants may sign up to enter contests at the festival.

The event is free and open to the public. For more information, visit bbbparkandrec.org/community-events/oysterfest/. See blainebythesea.com/events/blaine-oysterfest/ for the full list of vendors.
