Spooky season has descended upon Blaine and Birch Bay, bringing with it plenty of activities for both children and adults alike to have a thrilling time. Here are 14 ways to celebrate leading up to Halloween on Friday, October 31.
• HomeFarm pumpkin patch: HomeFarm is a one-stop shop for fall activities in Birch Bay with a pumpkin patch, farm store, corn maze and pigs. Activities ramp up on the weekends with concessions, face painting and tractor train rides.

• Witch hat-making party: When deciding “witch” Halloween event to attend, there’s one that’s sure to stand out to spell-casters. Lisa Starcevic will host a witch hat-making party 2-5 p.m. Friday, October 24 at Great Blue Heron Grill, 8720 Semiahmoo Parkway. For $40, materials and snacks are included. • Trick-or-Treat on the Berm: Hundreds – if not thousands – of children dressed in their spookiest costumes are expected to fill their bags with candy from community groups during the Trick-or-Treat on the Berm event 3-5 p.m. Saturday, October 25. Due to inclement weather in the forecast, the Birch Bay Chamber of Commerce has moved the event from the berm to the Birch Bay Activity Center, 7511 Gemini Street. The time remains the same. • Gateway tarot card reading: Gateway1890 Taphouse & Grill will host a tarot card reading from Blaine resident Russell Chan 6-9 p.m. Saturday, October 25 in the restaurant’s Smuggler’s Tunnel speakeasy, 429 Peace Portal Drive. Chan is a certified medium who has conducted readings for the Los Angeles Police Department. The event follows Chan’s book signing and presentation at 6 p.m. Friday, October 24 at Village Books in Fairhaven, 1200 11th Street, suite 201.

• Ghostbusters double feature: Whatcom County is proving it “ain’t afraid of no ghost” with a double feature of “Ghostbusters” (1984) and Ghostbusters (2016) starting at 1 p.m. Sunday, October 26 at Mount Baker Theatre, 104 N. Commercial Street in downtown Bellingham.

• Halloween disco party: Groovy goblins of all ages can work it out on the dance floor during Blaine-Birch Bay Park and Recreation District 2’s Halloween disco party 6-8 p.m. Thursday, October 30 at Blaine Community/Senior Center, 763 G Street. • Halloween at Blaine Public Library: The library will have an array of Halloween-themed activities between a scavenger hunt, puzzles, trivia and trick-or-treating 3-8 p.m. Friday, October 31 at 610 3rd Street.
• Costumed dinner at The Vault: The Vault will celebrate all things spooky with a costume contest and live music during its dinner on Friday, October 31 at 277 G Street in Blaine. • Freeman’s Halloween: The Freeman family is back with the 11th annual Freeman Halloween Carnival 4:30-8:30 p.m. Friday, October 31 at 608 C Street in Blaine. This year’s theme is Disney villains, and the carnival will include contests, games, food trucks, prizes and festive treats. The event is free and open to the public.
• Downtown trick-or-treating: Blaine Arts Council is organizing trick-or-treating in downtown Blaine 4-6 p.m. Friday, October 31. Trick-or-treaters are encouraged to start their journey at the Blaine Art Gallery, 922 Peace Portal Drive, to receive candy and a list of nearby businesses handing out sweets.
• Halloween at Great Blue Heron: Celebrate Halloween dressed in your best costume for Great Blue Heron Grill’s annual Halloween party 7-9 p.m. Friday, October 31 at 8720 Semiahmoo Parkway.
