The Blaine boys wrestling team lost a dual tournament with Ferndale at home January 14, forfeiting the upper weights and winning six of 10 matches for final team scores of 47–24.

Despite the team loss, Blaine’s five veteran Mat Classic wrestlers performed well against their 3A opponents. Colton Economy (120 pounds), Gage Lott (132), Anthony Frey (138), Riley Fritsch (145) and Caleb Frey (152) all contributed to Blaine’s state championship performance in the Mat Classic last year, and all five of them won their matches in the dual meet against Ferndale. Blaine’s sixth winner was freshman Saul Magallon (182).

Olivia Adams, another state tournament veteran, represented the Blaine girls wrestling team with expertise, pinning Ferdale’s two female wrestlers.

On January 17, the boys team took third place at the Northwest Conference Tournament at Sehome, with 142.5 team points. Ferndale won the tournament with 236.5 points and Sedro-Woolley took second with 195 points. Anthony Frey (132), Fritsch (138) and Caleb Frey (145) won their championship matches, and Billy Dodd (132) took second place for Blaine.

The Borderites will take on the Bellingham Red Raiders in a dual meet at home Wednesday, January 28. The NWC meet begins at 7:30 p.m.
