Whatcom County Superior Court invites public to first education day

Posted

On Friday, Aug. 28, the Whatcom County Superior Court will host a Court Education Day for the first time, inviting members of the community in for a closer look at how the court functions.

The Superior Court wants to provide the community with clear information about the court’s systems and processes, and how they can access important resources, said Mallory Hamilton, its programs manager.

“Everyone deserves access to justice and our goal is to continue working towards building public trust and transparency,” Hamilton wrote in an email to The Northern Light.

There will be various presentations for people to attend to learn more about the court’s programs. People will be allowed to sit in on open hearings and take guided or self-guided tours of the facility.

“Court Education Day is an opportunity for the community to see firsthand what happens inside our courthouse and learn about the many people and programs that make our justice system work,” Hamilton said in a news release. “We want the public to feel welcome, ask questions and better understand the services available through Superior Court.”

The event is open to all and will run from 1 to 5 p.m. at the Whatcom County Courthouse, 311 Grand Ave. in Bellingham. For more information, visit whatcomcounty.us/413/Superior-Court.
