The Point Roberts Food Bank presented its raffle quilt to winner Patricia Johns during their Spaghetti Dinner Fundraiser held August 29 at the community center. The quilt was made and donated by the Point Roberts Quilting Group, and proceeds from the raffle will help support its plans for a new storage warehouse at the corner of Tyee Drive and Gulf Road. The Food Bank has relied on temporary storage and space graciously provided by the International Marketplace for years. The new warehouse will provide a permanent place to store food, while distribution will continue to take place at the community center.
The Food Bank distributes food every Friday from 8:30 to 10:30 a.m. at the community center, where there are no income, address or identification requirements. A Food Pantry outside the community center also provides a limited selection of food outside regular Food Bank hours. Keeping the Food Bank operating and building the new warehouse both depend on community support. Monetary donations can be made through the Food Bank’s website, prfoodbank.org, or at Columbia Bank, while food donations can be placed in the donation box near the south entrance of the International Marketplace. The Food Bank is also always looking for volunteers. Those interested can contact the Food Bank through its website. The Raven Van provides free rides to the Food Bank at 360-305-5838.
