Blaine school board unanimously approved the contract for interim superintendent Dan Chaplik during its May 27 meeting.
Per the contract, Chaplik will start the one-year interim position on July 1, with an end date of June 30, 2026. Chaplik’s initial base pay will be $218,270 as well as a $5,000 stipend for holding a doctorate degree. The board will also pay for one-half of monthly rent, up to $1,000 per month.

Chaplik was one of seven applicants for the position. In his interview, Chaplik said he preferred working with smaller school districts to have more involvement in the community, according to previous reporting in The Northern Light.
Blaine superintendent Chris Granger will start next school year as Sultan’s superintendent.
The board voted 4-0 with Erika Creydt, Ben Lazarus, Cliff Freeman and Ryan Swinburnson in support.
