A youth orchestra is set to give a free performance at G Street Plaza in downtown Blaine from noon to 1 p.m. Saturday, June 22.

The Steel Magic Northwest orchestra, a 37-member orchestra from the Seattle area, will be showcasing Caribbean, pop, classic, Afro-Cuban, Brazilian and songs from TV and movies. The performance is part of a series of performances throughout the weekend at Point Roberts, B.C. and Camano Island.

“A modern steel orchestra of this size is a pretty rare thing in the Pacific Northwest,” said Gary Gibson, founder of Steel Magic Northwest. “This isn't something you see every day. It’s with the effort to come out.”

Blaine by the Sea Market, which typically is held at G Street Plaza Saturday mornings, will be moved to H Street Plaza and the parking lot between Rockwood Realty and The Vault. The market runs from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. every Saturday through October 14 and sells artisan crafts, home goods, baked goods and more.
