Non-profit business to pick up appliances for free

Posted

Now’s the time to get rid of your old appliances.

In honor of Earth Day on Sunday, April 22, representatives with Appliance Depot are picking up working and non-working stoves, washers, dryers, refrigerators and freezers for free at residences across Whatcom County. The offer begins on Saturday, April 7 and ends Saturday, May 5.

“We have been in Bellingham for over 12 years keeping major appliances out of the landfill,” read a press release from Appliance Depot. “We have saved 50,000 appliances from the waste stream and provided job training and work experience to over 400 low-income residents.”

In Blaine and Birch Bay, pickup will take place on Tuesdays, April 10, 17 and 24 as well as May 1.

Donors are asked to call 360/527-2646 to schedule a pickup and to leave appliances outside of the house to ensure easy access for crews. Donations can also be dropped off at Appliance Depot, located at 802 Marine Drive in Bellingham.

Typically, pick-up fees cost between $10 and $30 and $30 to recycle the Freon from refrigerators and freezers. Appliance Depot is a 501(c)3 nonprofit; donations are tax-deductible.
