Ideal Option clinic in Bellingham opened recently with a mission of medication-assisted treatment for those struggling with addiction to opiates and other drugs.

The clinic, which opened in late March at 3800 Byron Street, is part of a chain with more than 60 locations in 10 states. It’s based in Kennewick, Washington.

Spokesperson Austin Hicks said the company opened a Bellingham branch in part because its Mount Vernon location was seeing a lot of Whatcom County patients.

“They just saw a huge need for access to treatment in Whatcom County,” Hicks said. “They made the decision to locate in Bellingham from a standpoint of reducing barriers. It takes a lot for a patient struggling with addiction from Whatcom County to make it to Mount Vernon.”

Ideal Option is a for-profit clinic that takes private insurance as well as Medicare and Medicaid.
