Police are searching for a man suspected of attacking another man with a knife Monday evening at Montfort Park in Blaine.
The Blaine Police Department said the victim was working on a trail inside the park when an unknown man attacked him about 7:10 p.m. Aug. 17. Police said there is no known motive and the attack appeared to be unprovoked.
The victim told police the man jumped out and swung a knife at him. He saw the attack coming and leaned away but was struck above his right eye, suffering a gash, according to police statements. He had no other reported injuries and was treated at the scene by North Whatcom Fire and Rescue before Blaine police transported him to a hospital at his request.
The victim called 911 at about 8:08 p.m., nearly an hour after the attack. Police reported they do not know the reason for the delay.
Officers from the Whatcom County Sheriff’s Office and a Bellingham Police Department K-9 unit assisted Blaine police in searching for the attacker, but they have not located him.
Police have received surveillance footage of potential persons of interest, no suspect has been identified and the investigation remains ongoing. Police are asking anyone with information or possible video footage related to the incident to call 360-676-6911.
