Local girl scouts host free community meal

Posted

Sophia Dickey and Tessa Cobb, members of Whatcom County Girl Scout Troop 43920, hosted the Community Assistance Program’s weekly community meal at the Blaine Senior Center on February 19.

The girls, both 11-year-old Blaine residents, funded the meal, organized volunteers and shopped for groceries. They raised about $300 and served 170 portions, earning a Girl Scouts Silver Award for their work.

To raise money, Sophia and Tessa got donations and sponsorships from local businesses. Blaine shipping business ProPack contributed a significant amount, said Sophia’s mom, Chasity Dickey, and Cost Cutter allowed them to set up a table outside to ask for donations.

The Community Assistance Program puts on the community meal every week and each week it’s sponsored by a different organization.
