Western grebes exemplify avian beauty and grace with a dignified demeanor. They are profi-
cient underwater swimmers and gather in large flocks in winter in pursuit of prey. They win-
ter on saltwater and nest on freshwater lakes and marshes. This diving bird is one of the most
elegant of all bird species. During migration, they can be seen in good numbers in the channel
between Blaine and Semiahmoo.
