Glide across the ‘fin-ish’ line at Run with the Chums

The 14th annual Run with the Chums, hosted by the Whatcom Conservation District, will take place on Saturday, Sept. 12, at BP Highlands, 6898 Point Whitehorn Road. 

 

The free, family-friendly event includes the 5K, which begins at 10 a.m. and the Smolt Sprint, an obstacle course for children 10 years old and younger, which begins at 9:30 a.m. 

 

Check-in opens at 8:30 a.m., and free T-shirts will be available on a first come, first served basis. Participants may bring leashed pets.

Run with the Chums kicks off Whatcom Water Week, which celebrates and educates residents on Whatcom County’s water resources. 

 

Two other Whatcom Water Week events take place near Blaine and Birch Bay. 

 

The Birch Bay Wastewater Treatment Plant tour, organized by the Birch Bay Water & Sewer District, is at 1 p.m. on Tuesday, Sept. 15. The tour takes about an hour. To register, email Operations Manager Mike Kim at mikekim@bbwsd.com. 

 

From 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Saturday, Sept. 19, RE Sources will host a beach cleanup for International Coastal Cleanup Day at the Cherry Point Aquatic Reserve, 4601 Gulf Road. Participants should dress for the weather and wear shoes fit for difficult terrain. Cleanup supplies will be provided.
