The National Weather Service has issued a gale warning including Whatcom County. The gale warning will go into effect at 6 p.m. Thursday, October 23 and will be in effect until 11 a.m. on Friday, October 24.
Winds of 34 to 47 knots are expected, and these winds will cause hazardous seas. Residents with boats docked in marinas should take preemptive measures to secure vessels.
Residents living on the coast should prepare for high winds. Peak wind gusts may reach 40 knots from the southeast. Loose objects (lawn furniture, garbage cans, etc) should be secured. Drivers and beachgoers should always exercise caution along low-lying coastal roads and beaches.
