Whatcom County voters can learn the stances of candidates running in the Aug. 4 primary election via interviews posted to the website of the League of Women Voters of Bellingham/Whatcom County.

The league conducted the interviews of candidates vying to represent the area, who were asked the same three questions, according to a news release. The recorded responses were posted to lwvbellinghamwhatcom.org/. Select the “Primary Elections” link on the homepage to find them.

The recordings are shorter than 10 minutes.

Races include four candidates for the 2nd Congressional District, four for the 40th Legislative District Position 2, four for the 42nd District State Senate seat, four for Whatcom County Prosecuting Attorney and 10 candidates for two new seats on the Port of Bellingham Board of Commissioners.

“The League of Women Voters has a long history of conducting nonpartisan candidate forums or debates,” said Eileen McCracken, president of the local league, in the release. “We aim to provide voters with unbiased information that they can use to distinguish between candidates and make informed decisions.”

Ballots were mailed Wednesday.

Voters must drop off their ballots in one of the drop boxes in Whatcom County by 8 p.m., Aug. 4, or mail them a week before the election to ensure they are postmarked by Aug. 4.
