Earth Day events organized around Blaine, Birch Bay
Blaine’s Salishan Neighborhood Association adopted the Interstate 5 exit 274 off-ramp for a litter cleanup on Saturday. Within two hours, the group collected 25 bags of trash. Pre-K through second grade students celebrated Earth Day by planting sunflowers in reusable milk cartons on April 22 at Blaine Primary School.

Ferndale-based Superfeet Worldwide had 22 employees remove invasive English ivy from Lincoln Park on April 22 in Blaine. Superfeet, which gives its employees 16 hours of paid volunteer time each year, partnered with Whatcom Million Trees Project and the city of Blaine for the work party. The crew removed English ivy from 128 trees in the park. Ivy is particularly threatening to mature trees as it blocks sunlight.
