DelBene announces military academy appointments

Congresswoman Suzan DelBene (WA-01) announced that four U.S. military academies accepted the nominations of nine First District high school students and graduates. Closest to home, Blaine High School senior Alfonso Dermendziev has been accepted by the U.S. Naval Academy in Annapolis, Maryland.

The second oldest of the United States’ five service academies, the Naval Academy educates officers primarily for the U.S. Navy and the Marine Corps.

Every year, DelBene has the privilege of nominating a limited number of students to the U.S. Air Force Academy, Naval Academy, West Point Military Academy and Merchant Marine Academy. The honor of attending a military service academy comes with a commitment to service for a minimum of five years upon graduation.

“Being accepted to serve in a military academy is a major accomplishment, and I’m glad to see nine First District students receive such a highly competitive honor,” DelBene said.

“I have no doubt they will represent the First District with dignity and grace while joining the ranks of our country’s next generation of military leaders. Congratulations on a

job well done!”
