More speakers and performers have been added to the free Peace Arch community gathering at Peace Arch Historic State Park on Tuesday, September 13. Among those are speeches by Microsoft president and vice chair Brad Smith and Washington state lieutenant governor Denny Heck as well as a Lummi Nation cultural performance.

The gathering will take place 12:30-2 p.m. on Tuesday to celebrate good relations between the U.S. and Canada. The event will conclude the Cascadia Innovation Corridor conference, “Cascadia 2050 Vision: Moving to climate action,” which will be held Monday, September 12 and September 13 at Semiahmoo Resort.

Mia Yen, the consul general of Canada in Seattle, will also give a speech, a Microsoft spokesperson said in an email to The Northern Light. Former Washington governor Christine Gregoire, Surrey Board of Trade CEO Anita Huberman and Blaine mayor Mary Lou Stewart are set to give speeches. There will also be live performances of the U.S. and Canadian national anthems.

Food and refreshments will be served at the community gathering. People entering the park from Canada should bring their passports, the Microsoft spokesperson said. U.S. Border Patrol and Canada Border Services Agency will ensure lawful event entrance.
