A 21-year-old Blaine resident has been released from the hospital following a crash last month that police allege he caused by driving under the influence.

On April 25, Blaine Police Department officers found the man unconscious in a 2016 black Chevy Malibu that had struck an embankment in the 9000 block of Semiahmoo Parkway, near the Sea Smoke neighborhood.

Blaine police said they observed the man, who did not appear to be wearing a seatbelt, surrounded by several alcoholic beverage containers and intoxicant odors. The man did not show obvious signs of trauma, but police began chest compressions after they lost the man’s pulse and he stopped breathing before medics arrived.

The man was transported to PeaceHealth St. Joseph Medical Center in Bellingham, where he stayed 11 days. PeaceHealth spokesperson Amy Drury said the man was discharged May 6.

Blaine police alleged the man was driving 50 mph in a 35 mph zone. The City of Blaine’s prosecutor is reviewing DUI and malicious mischief charges.
