By Oliver Lazenby Blaine High School graduate Kyle Sentkowski wowed the 2A Northwest Conference with his punting and placekicking, sharpened his skills at the College of the Siskiyous in Weed, California, and this fall the former Borderite football player will kick at Sacramento State University, a NCAA Division I school.
Sentkowski accepted a preferred walk-on offer from Sacramento State, which means he’s guaranteed a spot on the roster but will not be on scholarship.
Jeremy LaPan, Sacramento State special teams coordinator, has known Sentkowski for two years through kicking camps and said he was impressed with his kicking and character. Sentkowski has the opportunity to compete for a spot as starting kicker, he said.
“We’ll chart everything and the person with the best empirical stats will be our starter,” LaPan said. “I think his odds are pretty good.”
Sentkowski graduated from Blaine High School in 2017. He set school records for most points kicked in a game and most points kicked in a season. He attended College of the Siskiyous for the past two years.
