Blaine girls soccer, led by a pair of goals from junior forward Kate Koreski, defeated Nooksack Valley 2-0 on November 8 to clinch a spot in the 1A state soccer playoffs.
The Borderites (7-13-0) controlled most of the game against Nooksack Valley, showing stout defense from upperclassmen Madilyn Musto, Kaitlyn Ritter Von Trautmann and Merissa Delgado, among others. Junior goalkeeper Marcella Bring earned another clean sheet, her second consecutive after a 1-0 win over Meridian on November 5.
But it was Koreski that made the difference on the score board for Blaine, scoring 22 minutes into the first half to put the Borderites up, then again halfway through the second half to put the game out of reach. With a goal against Meridian, Koreski scored Blaine’s final three goals of the 1A District 1 postseason, willing the team into the state playoffs.
The win solidified Blaine as the second place finishers in the 1A Northwest Conference in 2025, behind conference champions Lynden Christian.
Blaine earned the final, 16-seed in the tournament that begins on Tuesday, November 11 when the Borderites take on Cedar Park Christian at Sammamish High School at 2 p.m.
