Birch Bay Waterslides on the market for $6 million

Birch Bay Waterslides was listed for sale shortly after the water park announced it would not open this summer.

On Monday, John L. Scott Bellingham Real Estate put the 41-year-old water park and the surrounding land on the market for $6 million. The water park makes up one-third of the 14.5-acre property at 4874 Birch Bay-Lynden Road, with vacant land covering the other two-thirds, according to the listing.

The unincorporated Whatcom County land is zoned general commercial, which allows for multi-family, mixed-use residential and a variety of commercial options.

In early May, the water park posted a notice on its website and updated social media to inform customers it would be closed for the 2026 season, though no additional information was provided.

The looming sale comes after a Skagit County man was seriously injured going down the Hairpin slide in August 2023, requiring him to spend nearly two weeks in the intensive care unit in Seattle. The man filed a negligence lawsuit in May 2024 in Whatcom County Superior Court; the trial is expected to begin Aug. 26.

In the fall of 2024, the water park announced it hired California-based water park consulting company, Global Management Amusement Professionals, to oversee a five-year plan to upgrade the facilities. The park reopened last summer after undergoing over $1 million in renovations.

Jun Yu Development LLC bought the property in 2011. Park owner Qiyan (Max) Li and real estate agent Patrick Starr did not respond to requests for more information.
