About 4,500 people attended the Kids Kite Festival on Saturday and Sunday in Birch Bay, according to the Birch Bay Chamber of Commerce.
The event featured free kites, food and craft vendors, a Kids Makers Market and children’s entertainment.
The Birch Bay Chamber of Commerce gave out free kites. The Whatcom County Library System tent had blank kites for children to decorate with markers and stickers.
Snow cones, food trucks and local vendors lined Birch Bay Drive by the playground, and Wren the Juggler and the Wagon of Whimsy performed for crowds of children on both days.
Children had the opportunity to get their faces painted, play games, enjoy the playground and fly their new kites at the beach.
Several children sold their wares at the Kids Maker Market. Their handmade products included cards, crocheted animals, beading, candles, jewelry, paintings and more.
The event was held at Birch Bay State Park, and fun was had by kite-fliers of all ages.
