Birch Bay Drive home destroyed in early morning fire

A structure fire occurred the morning of Sept. 16 at 7066 Birch Bay Drive. Whatcom County Fire District 7 was dispatched just before 6 a.m. to heavy fire conditions. Matt Cagle, division chief of training for the fire district said it took around a half hour to get the fire under control enough for them to enter the building. There was one person in the home, but they were outside and being helped by neighbors by the time crews arrived, according to Cagle. "Unfortunately, it was a 100% loss," Cagle said of the condition of the home.
