Applegrove Junction antique store moves to Birch Bay

Locally-owned antique shop Applegrove Junction has moved to Birch Bay Square.

Owners Ronell McAllister and Robert Ewing have operated Applegrove Junction for over 10 years, previously in Ferndale on Axton Road and Northwest Drive. In 2025, the owner of the property they were on had other plans for the property, and McAllister and Ewing had to move the store to a new location. From late 2025 to early 2026, it was temporarily located in a warehouse in the Grandview Business Center in Ferndale.

The warehouse space was too small for regular business operations, but it worked for the holidays and allowed McAllister to continue selling items online.

In April, they opened at the new location at 8125 Birch Bay Square Street, suite 204. McAllister said they knew they wanted to stay in Whatcom County, and Birch Bay Square felt like the perfect spot.

The new location has also opened the business up to wider clientele. With the NEXUS Enrollment Center and other shops nearby in the complex, it draws in customers that wouldn’t ordinarily stop by.

“We still have a lot of our regular customers that have followed us here, but we see a lot of different, new faces here,” McAllister said.

In each new location, different items have been popular. So far in Birch Bay, McAllister noted that the store sells a lot of clothes, books, purses and baskets.

“I don’t know that there’s any rhyme or reason, except jewelry always sells,” McAllister said.

The store’s shelves are lined with everything under the sun, separated and arranged by era and style: vinyl records, glassware, greeting cards, figurines and the kinds of trinkets only found in antique stores.

“Each thing is a little bit different,” McAllister said. “We have new and old. We don’t just have antiques, we have both.”

McAllister has been in the antiquing business since the 1980s and learned from her parents.

“I’ve done it my whole life,” she said. “I got (Ewing) into it and now he’s pretty into it; he’s learned a lot.”

The store is open from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. Wednesday through Saturday. Shop the online collection at Applegrove Junction Antiques on eBay.
