Blaine Community Assistance Program President Dan DeMent announced he will step down from his leadership role after 14 years in the position, effective June 30.
DeMent said in an email that he will continue his involvement with CAP as a volunteer recruiter and ministry adviser.
“I have just entered a stage in life where I feel I can best serve by teaching (and) encouraging others,” DeMent said. “It has been a privilege to be part of a great organization that desires to love (and) serve its neighbors.”
DeMent’s involvement with CAP began in 2009, before he was appointed president in 2012.
From 2015 to 2022, he served as executive director in addition to his responsibilities as president. During his time in leadership, CAP grew significantly, starting programs like the Community Toy Store and Food Connection.
Rochelle Halldorson, CAP’s managing director of Clothing Ministries, will serve as interim president while the organization begins its search for a new president.
CAP is a nonprofit that provides community assistance for Blaine, Birch Bay, Point Roberts and Custer residents who require additional resources to meet their basic needs.
