As 2025 legislative year wraps up, my focus remains translating the work in Olympia into local results for Blaine and Birch Bay.
At the heart of that work is transparency, trust, and accountability. As costs rise for families, I supported legislation targeting tax relief (not increases) and expanding access to basic necessities. These included a diaper sales tax exemption for families with young children, in an effort to help working families stay rooted in Blaine and Birch Bay by reducing pressure on budgets. While healthcare costs soar, I am working to advance legislation requiring transparency in contracts by insurance companies, limiting the use of artificial intelligence in medical decision-making, and prohibiting unsafe limits on anesthesia to ensure patients can access care quickly, safely and with clarity about what their insurance covers.
Expanding access to behavioral health care is urgent. Last year, we reduced red tape so providers can coordinate care during a crisis, ultimately saving lives. I have also remained committed to protecting access to reproductive healthcare.
Looking ahead, I am especially proud of our work with working waterfront partners, local educators and businesses like Drayton Harbor Oyster Company, in an effort to develop a Blue School and MERIS – expanding maritime and environmental education and career pathways that preserve our fishing heritage while creating good paying jobs for our young people.
Public safety initiatives addressing organized retail theft and investments in community infrastructure will continue to be a priority.
Transparency builds trust. I welcome your engagement as we move forward together.
Please continue to reach out to me, stay engaged with the legislature by tuning into TVW and testifying virtually or in-person on legislation that matters to you.
