2025 Year in Review: Blaine Public Library

Posted

It’s been a busy year at the Blaine Public Library. By the end of 2025, we are on track to:

• see over 82,000 library visitors

• offer 242 public programs

• provide over 98 hours of individual Tech Help support

• circulate over 156,000 items.

The Blaine library and the Whatcom County Library System (WCLS) saw many significant events this past year, but I only have space to name but a few. In April, WCLS launched the Library Game, a card-collecting game that encourages patrons to engage with libraries in new ways and to visit other locations. It’s been a great hit so far, bringing lots of new visitors to Blaine. The Library Game will continue through the fall of 2026.

Also in April, a small group of WCLS staff (including Blaine’s manager and Blaine’s youth services librarian) were honored by the Washington Library Association with the Candice Morgan Intellectual Freedom Award for creating and facilitating intellectual freedom trainings for both staff and patrons. And in August, WCLS’s library levy proposition was approved by the majority of voters, securing continued funding for public library services throughout Whatcom County.

This year, the Friends of the Blaine Library (FOBL) were hard at work raising funds to support library services and programming through various book sales, fundraising events and initiatives (like the Book Worm Bin Project). If you’ve ever wanted to get more involved in supporting your local library, now is a great time to contact FOBL.

The Blaine library is ready and willing to help connect you with your next great read, assist you on your journey to learn something new, or to even provide you with a space for an upcoming community meeting. We hope to see you at the library in 2026!
