The past year was a time of growth, connection and new opportunities for Blaine-Birch Bay Park and Recreation District 2 (BBBPRD2). Through expanded programming, strong partnerships and dedicated volunteers, we continued our mission of creating and supporting meaningful recreation experiences for the Blaine and Birch Bay communities.
A major highlight of the year was coordinating the city of Blaine’s Blaine by the Sea events. BBBPRD2 proudly delivered the Spring Block Party, the 4th of July Celebration, the Drayton Harbor Pirate Festival and Holiday Harbor Lights, just to name a few. These events brought residents and visitors together to celebrate community pride and local traditions.
Partnerships played a vital role in our success. Examples include the Birch Bay Chamber of Commerce hosting the Sand Sculpture Competition, Blaine Healing Arts Massage offering Sunset Yoga, and Friends of Birch Bay State Park leading Beach Walks and Crabbing 101 programs.
Throughout the year, BBBPRD2 offered more than 2,000 hours of fitness programming. We introduced several new programs and events, including summer movies, a 5K, and new enrichment opportunities such as toddler time, little chefs and art across generations.
During the summer months, our red bus provided transportation to local hikes. Local artists further enriched our programming by leading beach art classes, hosting paint and sip events at L&L Bakery and offering ceramic classes at the Blaine Pavilion.
On July 1, BBBPRD2 took over management of the Blaine community center and senior programming. This transition allowed us to support and revive community traditions, including the 4th of July breakfast, bringing Elvis back to Blaine, hosting community dances, and restarting community dinners.None of this work would have been possible without our incredible volunteers. Their positive impact could be seen across youth activities, senior programs, outdoor and art classes, and every major community event. Their dedication and generosity are the foundation of our success.
As we look back on 2025, we are proud of a year defined by strengthened partnerships, new friendships and the beginning of exciting new adventures. We look forward to continuing this momentum and serving our community in the years ahead.
