Blaine schools in lockdown due to threat

Posted

Blaine school district’s main campus went into lockdown due to a threat around 2:40 p.m. May 25, according to a school district alert. Multiple law enforcement agencies are actively investigating the threat. The school district said earlier this afternoon there were no known injuries.

A Blaine Police Department (BPD) spokesperson wrote on Facebook that a student received threats earlier in the day and then at the end of the school day.

BPD announced at 5 p.m. May 25 that all Blaine schools were cleared and safe. The school district started releasing students to their families.

"We will begin releasing students to an authorized pick up person with picture ID from the stadium in the next 30 minutes," a school district spokesperson wrote on Twitter at  5:30 p.m. "Please do not take your student without checking them out from the stadium. Bus riders who are not picked up will be delivered by their normal route."

Previously, parents and family members were asked to not approach or call schools. Anyone waiting to pick up a student was asked to leave the campus area.

“We have law enforcement from multiple agencies involved in an active and evolving situation at the school,” Blaine Police Department spokesperson Tami Bhachu told The Northern Light in an email. “We are proceeding with an abundance of caution at this time.”

A 12-year-old Blaine student was arrested last December after making a graffiti threat of a school shooting in a boys Blaine Middle School bathroom. A similar threat had been found in the girls Blaine High School bathroom a few days before the arrest last December.

The lockdown comes the day after a school shooting in Uvalde, Texas that killed 19 students and two teachers.

This is a developing story and will be updated as more information is made available.
