Doug Hoffman, a duel citizen who grew up in Niagara Falls, Ontario and currently lives in Carlsbad, California, started on a walk from the Canadian border to Mexico on June 2. Hoffman, 72, wants to raise awareness for the idea of the North American Union with all the countries of North America, a concept based on the European Union, and also for ulcerative colitis, a chronic disease in the large intestine, which Hoffman was diagnosed with late last year. Hoffman hopes to walk 20-30 miles a day. “I am so excited because everything in life is rush, rush, rush and all of a sudden my lifestyle has just slowed down,” he said a couple of miles into his journey. “It’s unbelievable. I love it.”
