Whidbey Telecom cuts office personnel

Posted

The days of driving up to the service window at Whidbey Telecom and getting a friendly hello as you drop off your check are over. Those owners of the friendly hellos have been let go – the only people left are technical personnel, according to Whidbey's marketing and customer experience director Martha Ford.

In an email to the All Point Bulletin, Ford said that customers can still use the dropbox for payments and drop off or pickup equipment using the Smart Lockers. In-person appointments will still be available as will service calls. Ford said 24/7 technical support will also continue. “These are difficult times for Point Roberts, and like other businesses in Point Roberts, Whidbey Telecom has had to adjust to the current business conditions,” she said.

“The Whidbey Telecom commitment to the Point Roberts Community Connect Grant (fiber build) remains unchanged. Once we are given the green light from the USDA to continue the grant-funded fiber build, we will be devoting resources to complete the project,” she said, adding “We will continue to provide updates to the PRCAC meetings as we learn what the federal guidance is. The next PRCAC meeting is Thursday, June 26 at 7 p.m. We’ll be there.”
