Posted

About 40 law enforcement officers and professionals from Whatcom County and surrounding areas attended a four-hour training session about fair and impartial policing on December 11 in the Blaine city hall council chambers. The participants included police officers, sheriff’s deputies and border patrol agents. Hosted by the Blaine Police Department and facilitated by Blaine police chief Donnell Tanksley and chief deputy Steve Gatterman of the Whatcom County Sheriff’s Office, the training session taught participants how to recognize implicit biases, understand how biased policing impacts community members and develop skills and tactics to reduce the influence of bias on police practice.
