County Council to vote on Harbor Shores sewer agreement
The Whatcom County Council will hold a public hearing and vote tonight, July 12, on whether to grant a franchise to the Harbor Shores Sewer Corporation for eventual installation of sewer lines for the Harbor Shores development off of Blaine Road. The franchise will give the sewer corporation the right to access county rights-of-way for installation and maintenance of sewer lines for 25 years.

Construction management contract on Blaine city council agenda
At its regular meeting tonight, July 11, at 7, the Blaine City Council will consider approving a contract with Bellingham-based Wilson Engineering for construction management of the west Blaine wastewater conveyance project, which will transfer the last of the wastewater going into the plant on Semiahmoo to the Lighthouse Point Water Reclamation Facility. Work is expected to be completed by December 31, 2011.
Blaine school district releases budget overview
I was mistaken in my previous post about the Blaine school district's budget. The district never planned to release a draft version of its 2011/2012 budget, as I had said, but a preliminary budget overview, which is now available on the district's website.

County council will discuss Cherry Point Terminal permitting process
According to the agenda for the Tuesday, July 12, Whatcom County Council meeting, the council will meet in committee of the whole Tuesday morning to discuss the permitting process for the Gateway Pacific Terminal. I'm sure no decisions will be made, but it would most likely provide some useful insight into the extensive permitting process coming down the pipe for SSA Marine and their proposed terminal.
Blaine school district budget discussions begin
It's that time of year again, and school districts across the county have begin discussing their budgets for the upcoming 2011/2012 school year. The Blaine school district is set to release a draft budget this Sunday with a public hearing on the budget scheduled for July 25, the board's next regular board meeting. The school board must approve the budget by the end of August.
