County proposes rezone for properties in east Birch Bay

Whatcom County Planning and Development Services (PDS) just sent out an email saying it's seeking public comment on a proposed rezone for a portion of land in Birch Bay that used to be in the Birch Bay urban growth area (UGA).

Recent tests of water quality at one of the city of Blaine’s wells revealed higher than allowed levels of coliform bacteria.

Golay sentenced to three years in prison

Former Birch Bay Water and Sewer District treasurer Glenn Golay has been sentenced to three years in prison after pleading guilty to nine counts of first-degree theft stemming from his embezzlement of $469,000 from the district.

Primary election ballots must be postmarked by August 16

The Whatcom County Auditor's Office sent out a friendly reminder today saying all mail-in ballots for the primary elections must be postmarked no later than August 16.

New Birch Bay housing development in the works

A California-based landowner has submitted an application to Whatcom County Planning and Development Services (PDS) to subdivide a parcel of land in east Birch Bay to make room for a 97-lot, single-family residential development called Birch Bay Meadows.
