I was mistaken in my previous post about the Blaine school district's budget. The district never planned to release a draft version of its 2011/2012 budget, as I had said, but a preliminary budget overview, which is now available on the district's website.
District business manager Amber Porter cleared up the confusion for me. She will be presenting an explanation of the district's 2011/2012 budget at the next school board meeting, scheduled for July 25. This meeting will include a public hearing at which anyone can air their budget concerns or ask Porter questions. The two-page document released yesterday lays out the projected beginning and ending fund balances and projected revenue for each of the district's main funds: the general fund, through which most expenses are paid, the associated student body fund, the debt service fund, the transportation vehicle fund and the capital projects fund.
