Peter John Smith, age 90, entered into rest on November 9, 2015 in Blaine, WA. Peter was born on June 7, 1925 in Blaine to Robert and Rose (Drake) Smith. He attended Blaine High School and later joined the Navy, serving his country from May 14, 1942 until February 5, 1946.
Peter loved the water and worked his entire career as a commercial fisherman. He had many interests and hobbies, and most enjoyable for him was farming, wood cutting, reading military books and touring military museums. He will be most remembered as a loving man, who never complained. Pete and his wife opened their home to other families on holidays, making sure no one was left out. He and his wife were foster parents for 3 children and adopted their only child, Dennis Smith.
Peter is survived by his 2 grandchildren, Bill Smith of Olympia and Brenda Henderson of Blaine; 5 great-grandchildren and niece, Linda Smith of Port Townsend. He is preceded in death by his wife Donna Smith, son Dennis Smith, brother Kermit Smith, and his parents.
A Celebration of Peter’s life will be held on Tuesday, November 17 at 11 a.m. at Grace Lutheran Church in Blaine. Memorial contributions may be given in Peter’s name to Grace Lutheran Church.
