A small brush fire at 3370 Sweet Avenue spread over 2 acres on August 4, destroying a shed and an old car before North Whatcom Fire and Rescue workers were able to stop it. Firefighters halted the blaze in about half an hour, just before it reached a barn. No people or animals were injured.
