A Whatcom County Sheriff’s Office drone found the body of a missing 29-year-old woman March 17 in a pond near where she was last seen in Blaine. According to a sheriff’s office news release, there were no signs of trauma and no evidence of foul play at the scene.

The cause of death is unknown at this time. The woman’s body was turned over to the county medical examiner to conduct an autopsy.

On March 16, sheriff’s deputies responded to the report of a missing person at the 3000 block of H Street Road in Blaine. The woman was living in Ellensburg and unexpectedly showed up at her parent’s Blaine home the night before. Deputies used a drone along with the aid of a U.S. Customs and Border Protection Search and Rescue K-9 unit in a preliminary search conducted in the late morning and into the afternoon that was unsuccessful. There was no evidence found of assault or abduction at the time, the news release said.

On March 17, Whatcom County Search and Rescue (SAR) began a land search. Several items of clothing were found in a pond nearby. Sheriff’s office drone footage helped search units locate the woman’s body in the pond, and SAR personnel recovered the body.
