Douglas O. Benton passed away on Thursday January 22, 2015. He was born in Jacksonville, FL on October 29, 1961 to Jack and Vivian Benton. Doug lived in Florida

until age 4 when the family moved cross country to Washington State. He graduated from Columbia River High School located in Vancouver, WA in 1979. After graduation he moved to Whatcom County to be close to his brother Marty, who mentored him in commercial fishing, a profession which Doug passionately loved. Doug met and later married the love of his life Beth, with whom he had a son. They later divorced but became good friends. Doug remained a resident of the Blaine area for approximately 35 years until his death. He commercially fished for about 25 of those years, and also supplemented his income by cutting firewood for the community and doing various odd jobs. In recent years, Doug’s favorite past time was visiting friends and riding his bicycle around the community he loved. Douglas is survived by his son Rodrick; sisters, Leandra and Donna; nieces, Kassondra and Debra; nephews, Taylor, Cody, and Craig, and many loving friends. A service to celebrate his life will be held at the Northwood Alliance Church on Thursday, January 29, 2015 at 7:30 p.m. located at 580 C Street, Blaine WA 98230.
