Win or lose, the Blaine girls golf team will be the sharpest dressed team on the links this year. The team has new uniforms thanks to the Semiahmoo Golf and Country Club (G&CC) Ladies Club.

The club raised more than $2,000 at their 2013 Ladies Invitational in July and used the money to buy new uniforms and outerwear for the high school girls golf team. The outfits include polo-style shirts, thermal long-sleeved shirts and waterproof
jackets, pants and hats – all supplied by Nike and decked out in Borderite orange and black.

“They totally outfitted the team and the uniforms look really sharp,” said Blaine girls golf coach Laura Vincent. “It’s a wonderful gift to the program.”

Sue Carroll, who chaired the annual Semiahmoo Ladies Invitational golf tournament in 2013, said the idea to raise money for uniforms came about when the club was organizing the invitational event.

“We felt it would be easier to raise funds if we had a specific cause we were fundraising for, and the high school girls golf team was a natural choice.” Carroll said. “These uniforms will help keep the girls warm and dry when they’re out playing in all sorts of weather.”

Carroll thanked Nike and Kelly Brown, golf resort merchandiser at Semiahmoo Resort, for helping make the uniforms a reality. “They went above and beyond to get us good pricing,” she said.

The athletes will be able to keep their polo shirts and hats each year, while the waterproof outerwear will be passed on to the next team.

“They may be able to keep their thermals as well,” Carroll said. “And who knows? If we raise enough money this year maybe we’ll get them waterproof golf shoes.”

The 2014 Semiahmoo Ladies Invitational is scheduled for Wednesday, July 30.
