The Borderites lost a close game after taking the long trip to Friday Harbor, and will likely have to make that trip again in the first round of the district playoffs.
Blaine hung with Friday Harbor for much of the game February 1, but eventually fell to the Wolverines’ razor-sharp perimeter shooting. The Wolverines made nine three-pointers. The Borderites were on target as well, sinking eight three-pointers, including four from Sean Herrig. Herrig, Shaq Woods and Carson Knutzen were the high scorers for Blaine, with 14 points each. The final score was 63–56.
On the road against Sedro-Woolley February 4, the Borderites came out strong and battled to a draw in the first quarter, but
the offensive production of Cubs star Jackson Price was too much for the Borderites to handle. Price scored 33 points, boosting the Cubs to a 73–52 victory. Herrig was the high scorer for Blaine with 16 points.
The boys will end their regular season on the road against Burlington-Edison this Friday, February 7 before heading into the 1A district tournament. The game at Burlington-Edison begins at 7:15 p.m.
Third-seed Meridian played fifth-seed Mount Baker in a conference matchup February 5, but the results were unavailable at press time. Depending on the results of that matchup, Blaine will likely travel to Friday Harbor Monday, February 10 as the fourth seed in Northwest Conference 1A. If Mount Baker pulled off the upset, Blaine will be the third seed and will play the Cascade Conference No. 2 seed away. Check our Facebook page for an update.
