Due to a small roster, Blaine competed solely in individual races at the high school cross country district competition on Saturday, October 29, at South Whidbey High School. Fortunately, three of their four runners will be advancing to state.

Tom Bradley finished fourth with a time of 16:15.39, Eddie Fontes finished seventh at 16:38.72 and Kiersten Sigfusson came in 13th with a time of 20:15.32.

“I’m very pleased – it was a great meet for us,” head coach Carey Bacon said. He added that he was particularly impressed with Sigfusson, whose status entering the competition was uncertain.

“Kiersten had a phenomenal race,” Bacon said. “She basically came from behind and caught 10 kids in the last 800 meters. It was an exciting finish.”

Bacon said he has hopes for Bradley to place in the top 10 at the state championships this Saturday, November 5, at Sun Willows Golf Course in Pasco, Washington.
