There will be no return to the state tournament for the Blaine baseball team this year as its season ended with a gut-wrenching 4-3 loss to Bellingham, Tuesday May 10, at Volunteers Field in Anacortes.

The Borderites had the bases loaded before Derek Dougan grounded out to end the game. Blaine fell behind 2-0 before rallying twice against the Red Raiders’ ace Alex Check. Blaine finished the season 11-11, 7-7 in the Northwest Conference.

The long season also ended for the Borderites fastpitch softball team. Facing 3A Ferndale, Blaine was roundly handled in the opener of a double-header at Pipeline Fields, Thursday, May 12, getting blanked by the Golden Eagles 9-0. The night-cap game saw the Borderite bats awaken, sparked in no small part by reserve designated hitter Alyssa Southland, who was 2-4 with 3 RBIs as Blaine moved out to a 5-1 lead in the third inning. Ferndale hitters pounded Blaine pitching and pounced on throwing errors to forge a big inning and take the lead on the way to a 10-7 win in the finale.  The Borderites finished the season 1-19, 1-6 in Northwest Conference.

Blaine’s girls golf team finished the season placing tenth at the 2A Northwest District Girls Golf Championship at the Skagit Golf and Country Club.  The Borderites were once again led by Shannon Maxon, who was tied for 32nd overall with a score of 113.  Emily Greathouse checked in with a score of 117, tied for 36th.
