Blaine repaid a home loss to a tough Meridian team with a lot of hustle and key shooting as they beat the Trojans decisively on the road 47-35 last Tuesday night.
Sophomore guard Libby Moore had 20 points to lead the Lady B effort and sparkplug point guard Stefawn Perrin had 17. Each girl had two of Blaine’s four treys. In the second quarter Blaine put on a clinic for Meridian 21-12 as shot after shot arced through the hole. Blaine led through the entire game, at one point by 20 points, as nothing Meridian tried seemed to work.
That even included the Meridian scoreboard, refurbished just last month but out of order just a few minutes into the contest.
Meridian’s outstanding senior guard Bree Park was covered like a blanket by Blaine sophomore guard Alee Ruiz. Although she still scored 14 points, Park got so frustrated by Ruiz that she began using language that earned a technical foul. Blaine also led in three-point shots 4 to 3, rebounding 33-32 and got five fewer fouls and four fewer turnovers at 11-16 and 13-17 respectively.
Other Blaine players who scored included Amber Johnson with two, Jordan Oldham with three and Cassy Richardson with five.
The Borderites (4-5, 1-1) play next on the road at Burlington on Thursday, January 14, at 7:30 p.m.
