Borderites finish first undefeated season
?Blaine (8-0) finished its first perfect dual meet season in memory last week with a 48-23 win at Bellingham (2-7).
Blaine head coach Craig Foster, whose son Tyson (140 pound weight class) was one of four match winners by pin, said that as far as he knew this was the first time that has ever been done by a Blaine squad. This is Foster’s 17th season at the helm.
In what some fans saw as the best match of the evening, Bellingham’s Taylor Perry (135) decisioned Blaine’s tough sophomore Jamal Mallak, coming from behind for the 6-3 win.
Bellingham also won at 152 as McKray Jones pinned Blaine senior Brian Brock, and at 145, 130 and 112.
But the rest of the way it was all Blaine. The Borderites collected 18 points by forfeit by filling all the weight classes.
Freshman Nick Barnes (103) came up big late in his match to defeat Jorge Torres 11-8 to kudos from his coach.
Junior phenom Jacob Humphrey (125), Foster (140), team captain Shane Hicks and heavyweight Cody Dobbs all won by pin, and sophomore Jeremy Holdaas (171) went after Bellingham senior Riley Mullett like he’d just stolen his girl and emerged with a decisive 11-4 win.
