Nearly 500 runners turn out for Birch Bay Marathon, half marathon

Competitors from across the state braved the drizzling weather of Sunday, February 19, to compete in the 44th annual Birch Bay Marathon and half marathon.

A total of 469 runners competitors ran in both the full and half marathons. Michael Bergquist, of Spokane came in first place at the full marathon with a time of 2 hours, 50 minutes and 50 seconds. Joe Gray, of Lakewood, secured the top spot in the half marathon and set a course record with a time of 1:09:41.
