Peggy Joyce (Freeman) Erchinger, age 68, of Ferndale, passed away peacefully and surrounded by family on August 1, 2013.

Peggy was born on August 3, 1944 to Ray and Margaret (Anderson) Freeman in Bellingham. She and her siblings were raised for several years by the loving Amma Jakobina (Finnsson) and Afi Kristjon Freeman. It was their kind and loving spirit that shaped her in to a strong, loving and warm-hearted woman.

Peggy loved babies and children and spent many of her years running a daycare, a job she truly enjoyed. Upon closing her
daycare, Peggy went back into banking and worked as a loan officer and bank manager for several banks around Whatcom County. Peggy loved Blaine and was very involved in her community serving as a member of the Blaine Chamber of Commerce and the Blaine Marine Education Foundation.

She received great pleasure through endless hours spent working in her vegetable gardens, knitting, sewing, crocheting, traveling, laughing with her friends and rocking babies (boy did she love babies). She was a fiercely proud Freeman and Icelander, and cherished time with her family.

Peggy is survived by her loving husband Karl, who worked tirelessly talking care of her as her health declined, her sisters Judy Gonzales and Sharman Hughart, her brothers Jim (Helen) Freeman, Barry (Darla) Freeman, Ray (Margie) Freeman and Joe Freeman, her son Kelley Todd, her daughter Niki (Dave) Samek, her bonus children Lori (Eddie) Noragong, Charles Todd, Tara (Josh) Rickabaugh, Brett (Kim) Erchinger and Brian Erchinger, her grandchildren Christopher, Tiffany, Amber, Jordan, Blaze, Asrai, Forest, Fletcher, Ethan, Hillel, Mara, Reichle, Brianna, Jessica, and Gunnar, as well as several loving nieces and nephews.

Peggy was preceded in death by her dear husband Clayton, her Amma and Afi, her parents, her sister-in-law Elinore and numerous aunts and uncles whom she adored. She was an amazing mother, friend and community member, and she will be greatly missed.

Services will be held on Sunday, August 11 at 1 p.m. Grace Lutheran Church, 702 G St., Blaine, WA 98230.
