George Buckner December 1, 1925 – November 20, 2011
George Buckner passed away at the age of 85 on Sunday, November 20. He was born to Edgar and Olivia Buckner on December 1,1925.
He had fond memories of his school days growing up in Blaine and told many interesting and amusing stories of that time. He enlisted in the USMC while in his senior year of high school during WWII and served at Leyte, Philippines. Through the years he kept in touch with his Marine Corps buddies attending annual reunions of the 5th Amphibious Corps. He retired from the U.S. Forest Service in 1985.
George was a quiet and gentle man who enjoyed the outdoors, hunting, fishing, crabbing and walking the trails around Mt. Baker. In later years he enjoyed cooking, tending his garden, reading and listening to music. George loved spending time with his family who love him dearly and will miss him.
He was preceded in death by his parents, brothers Willard and Claude, and sister Wanda. He is survived by his loving wife Gwen, daughter Anita Cox, son Steve (Lois), stepsons Michael (Carolyn), Mark (Shirley), Matt (Carrie), grandchildren Holly Maulhardt, Brett Bennett, Karena Bennett, Renee Bennett, Austin Bennett, Candace Heller, Jesse Heller and Hanna Buckner, and great-grandchildren Wyatt and Simone Maulhardt.
The family wishes to thank A New Life, Adult Family Home for the wonderful care George received and the support they provided to the family. There will be a celebration of George’s life with family and close friends later in the year.
